Allen Michel is the managing partner of Gladstone Michel and chairs the firm's Professional Liability Group. He has more than three decades of jury trial and appellate experience in the areas of legal malpractice defense, and litigation of complex business, entertainment, insurance coverage, and real property disputes. Allen has been recognized by his peers as a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of Business Litigation for five years in a row. Fewer than five percent of California lawyers receive this distinction.
Allen's areas of expertise include:
- Legal malpractice suits arising out of claimed errors ranging from negligence to conflicts of interest, violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct and other breaches of fiduciary duty;
- Representation of attorneys in a wide variety of substantive areas, including entertainment law and intellectual property matters, real property and mechanics lien law, estate planning and tax issues, bankruptcy matters, and corporate advice, as well as in fee disputes, malicious prosecution cases, antiSLAPP motions and appeals, and disciplinary proceedings.
- Real property litigation, including fraud, breach of contract and specific performance cases;
- Partnership disputes, including receiverships and complex accounting trials before special masters;
- Defense of insurance matters involving claims of bad faith or other tortious conduct; and
- Construction defect matters, especially for contractors and developers.
Allen has lectured and written extensively on attorney liability issues, and serves as an expert witness and litigation consultant in legal malpractice cases and State Bar matters.
