Arthur Grebow has more than 35 years of experience in real estate, manufactured housing, business litigation and corporate matters. His practice also includes a substantial appellate component and practice before various administrative agencies.
Arthur has successfully litigated several hundred trials and trial court proceedings, including over 50 jury trials on matters ranging from the interpretation of the Commercial Code to First Amendment free speech issues. He also has extensive experience advising individual clients and business entities in sophisticated acquisition, financing and leasing transactions involving real estate.
Arthur is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized by his peers as a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of Real Estate for four years in a row.
Since 1989, Arthur has devoted a significant portion of his practice to the defense of mobilehome parks in diverse litigation matters, such as charges of premises liability (or failure-to-maintain), rent attacks and housing discrimination. Arthur has been retained by various insurance carriers to represent the park owners in these lawsuits. Due to his broad experience in these multiparty cases, he is able to streamline and shorten the discovery process. A recognized authority in manufactured housing law, Arthur has served as counsel to manufactured housing trade groups on important cases being decided in the California Supreme Court. In 2004, he was awarded the Advocacy Fighter of the Year Award sponsored by California Mobilehome Parkowners Alliance.
Arthur has also been actively involved in precedent-setting appellate matters. These include the California Supreme Court cases of Lindros v. Torrance School Board (1973) 5 Cal.3d 524, involving the free speech rights of public school teachers and Rubin v. Green (1993) 4 Cal.4th 1187, concerning unfair competition practices against attorneys. He represented the insurance company in an action brought by Union Carbide in Appalachian Insurance Company v. Superior Court (1984) 162 Cal.App. 3d 427 and participated in prosecuting and defending Federal and State securities actions. He has also been involved in many unfair competition cases, including Matull v. Cloutier (1987) 194 Cal.App. 3d 1049, where he successfully defended an attempt to enforce a covenant not to compete. He prevailed on behalf of the plaintiff in a leading Ninth Circuit case involving the right to attorneys' fees under ERISA, Hummel v. Rykoff (1980) 634 F.2d 446, and in Freeman v. Jacques Orthopedic (1983) 721 F.2d 654, involving ERISA jurisdiction.
Arthur is a frequent author and speaker on manufactured housing law and litigation avoidance. He has served as Judge Pro Tem for Los Angeles and Beverly Hills Municipal Courts, as an arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court, and a disciplinary referee for the State Bar. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Beverly Hills Bar Association, where he was Senior Editor of its Journal.
